Join the Protectors of the Salt River (Onk Akimel Ha Γ‘ukutham) for our monthly community bike ride along the beautiful Rio Salado corridor!
This month, we are riding to celebrate connection, wellness, and the beauty of the Rio Salado. It’s a fantastic way to connect with nature and fellow community members while enjoying the autumn weather on the trail.
Our December ride will take us from the bustling shore of Tempe Town Lake to the serene habitat of the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center.
πŸ—“ WHEN: Saturday, December 20th Meet up at 8:00 AM | Roll out at 8:15 AM
πŸ“ WHERE:
Parking Location: Please park your vehicle at the Rio Salado Parking Lot.
Address: 1050 W Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe, AZ 85281
Meeting Point: After parking, please make your way to our meeting spot by the bridge at the Tempe Center for the Arts (near 700 W Rio Salado Pkwy). We'll gather there before rolling out.
Pit Stop / Turnaround Point: Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center
Address: 3131 S Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85040
🚲 THE ROUTE: We will ride west from the Tempe Center for the Arts along the paved multi-use path that follows the Rio Salado. The total round-trip distance is approximately 13 miles at a casual, no-drop pace suitable for all skill levels.
One of the best features of this route is its safety; we will not cross any major vehicle intersections, allowing for a relaxing and continuous ride.
At the Audubon Center, we will take a break to rest, refill water bottles, and use the restroom before beginning our journey back to the parking lot.
β›‘ SAFETY & PREPARATION: Your safety and comfort are important to us. Please come prepared with the following:
A bike in good working order. (Please check your tire pressure and brakes before you arrive!)
A helmet is strongly recommended for all riders.
Plenty of water. Even in the cooler weather, staying hydrated is important.
Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat).
A small snack for energy, if you like.
This is a family-friendly event open to everyone. We can't wait to see you there and share the beauty of our river!
