NO KINGS is a peaceful national day of action and mass mobilization in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration, which they have doubled down on since June. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting and detaining people without warrants; threatening to overtake elections; gutting health care, environmental protections, and education when families need them most; rigging maps to silence voters; ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities; and driving up the cost of living while handling out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle. In Decatur, we suffer the direct results of these actions. We are one of the largest producers of soybeans in the country and due to Trump's tariff plan, China (who buys the largest amount of soybeans in the world) has decided to buy NONE, ZERO soybeans from the United States. There is simply no way to spin this into an immigration thing. They have sold out our ability to make and sell product in our hometown. Soybean production was the ONE thing we had left.
"Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children." -Former Defense Secretary and retired Marine Corps General James Mattis
Growing up discussing politics, as a bad as things got the one thing both sides of any fight agreed upon was "No war on US soil". We need to stand united, especially in our home city, and unite. This is no longer about left and right, red and blue. This is about the American people gathering, while we are still allowed to, and speak out, before doing so gets us thrown in gulags guarded by alligators.
Stand up for what you believe in. Be on the right side of history. Tell you grandchildren what you were doing when this all was going down.
