Think you know what makes a game accessible? Think again.
Whether you are a developer looking to broaden your audience or a gamer passionate about inclusive design, join us for a unique hands-on workshop and panel discussion. This pre-event for the Games for Blind Gamers Game Jam is designed to bridge the gap between sighted developers and the blind and low-vision (BLV) community through live play and honest conversation.
Please take a moment to fill out this form prior to attending the event: https://forms.gle/qoCkMLnqhHDJF3Uu7
What's Happening?
Live Gameplay & Observation: We are inviting blind gamers to showcase their favorite titles, so sighted developers will have the opportunity to observe firsthand how BLV players navigate interfaces, utilize audio cues, and overcome or get stuck by specific design choices. We also encourage devs to try the games with their eyes closed, and allow BLV gamers to teach them.
Myth-Busting Q&A: We’re bringing together a panel of blind and sighted members of the games community to tackle misconceptions in the industry. From "it's too expensive to implement" to "audio-only games are the only solution," we are setting the record straight.
Networking: Connect with potential teammates for the upcoming Game Jam and discuss how to build games that everyone can play.
Why Attend?
For Developers: Move beyond checklists. See the why behind accessibility features and learn how to design with empathy and efficiency.
For Gamers: Share your expertise, influence future indie titles, and show the dev community exactly what you need to have a great gaming experience.
Bringing a game is not required to participate.
Snacks and drinks will be provided.
If you are bringing a game to share or have play tested please plan to arrive 45 minutes early to get it set up.
Special Thanks to:
The Washington Talking Book & Braille Library (WTBBL)—Washington’s only completely accessible library providing service to people of all ages unable to read standard print, including persons with blindness, low vision, DeafBlindness, a physical disability that makes holding a book or turning a page difficult, or a reading disability.
