An onstage conversation with Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, co-leader of Te Pāti Māori and member of parliament in Aotearoa.
About this Event

How do Indigenous peoples protect their ancestral lands and waters in the face of ongoing extraction? How can they build power in their communities, through legislation, within institutions, and on the streets? And what does it mean to do so in this new age of peril?

About the Speakers

As an activist, executive, and elected official, Ms. Ngarewa-Packer has worked to improve public health, protect the environment, and uphold Māori rights under the Te Tiriti o Waitangi, or the Treaty of Waitangi. In parliament, she represents Te Tai Hauāuru on Aoterora’s North Island.

Noelani Goodyear-Kaʻōpua (moderator) is a Professor of Political Science at UH Mānoa, a co-founder of Hālau Kū Māna public charter school, and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Kamehameha Schools. She is the author or editor of six books.

This event is made possible by the sponsorship of Kaiāulu by Kamehameha Schools.
