At Death Cafe people, drink coffee, tea, eat cake and discuss death, dying, life and living. The event is free to attend. Cake will be provided. Participants purchase their own beverage. This is a safe space for people to share their experiences and ideas without judgement. The aim is to make the most of our finite lives. A Death Cafe is not a bereavement or grief support group and is not recommended for those that are actively grieving. It is not a place to push products or religion. It is an opportunity to discuss death as a natural part of our lives.
The concept was developed by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid inspired by the work of Swiss sociologist and anthropologist Bernard Crettaz. Crettaz organized the first death cafe, then called "Cafe Mortal," in 2004. There are now thousands of death cafes in 26 countries.
Stop by and join the conversation about this natural part of life.
