New Zealand native Dean Wareham moved to New York City as a teen in 1977. After graduating from Harvard University, Wareham founded Galaxie 500, and the band made three albums from 1987-1991. Wareham’s next band, Luna, recorded seven albums for Elektra and Beggar’s Banquet (including "Penthouse," which landed on Rolling Stone’s list of best albums of the 90s), followed by three albums as Dean & Britta (with his wife Britta Phillips) and two solo albums. His most recent release was a holiday album in collaboration with Britta and Sonic Boom. His memoir "Black Postcards" is a chronicle of his years in indie rock and was published by Penguin. He has also acted in several Noah Baumbach films, most recently "White Noise."
Rochester natives Maybird — Josh Netsky, Adam Netsky and Sam Snyder — released their independent debut record, “Down & Under” in 2013, and caught the ear of producer Danger Mouse, who signed them to his label 30th Century Records. Maybird released their 2016 EP “Turning Into Water” to critical acclaim. The band worked in Nashville with Patrick Carney of The Black Keys on their followup EP, “Unraveling,” and toured with Portugal.
