About this Event
It's a great year for a change of scenery, and so the Deadline Club is hosting its first outdoor park picnic on Sunday, August 29, 10:30 am to 2:30 pm along the beautiful Queens waterfront. Light refreshments will be provided, but everyone is encouraged to bring their own picnic. We will have several picnic tables reserved, but park rules do not permit alcohol or cooking.
We will be meeting in Gantry Plaza State Park's North Picnic Area, which is adjacent to the community garden between 46th and 47th Avenues and within view of the iconic PepsiCola sign. Here's a map link to the precise location. The best way to get there is by NYC Ferry's Astoria route, with the Long Island City/Gantry Plaza State Park stop just a short walk away. The ferry picks up from E. 90th Street, Astoria (Hallet's Cove), Roosevelt Island, E. 34th Street, the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Wall Street Pier 11. Ferry tickets are the same fare as the subway, and refreshments are served on board. Transfers to other NYC Ferry lines are free within 90 minutes. Nearby subway stops include Vernon Blvd-Jackson Avenue (7 line), 21 Street-Van Alst (G), and Court Square-23 St (E, M).
For award winners, this will also be an opportunity to pick up your 2020 and 2021 Deadline Club Award statuettes and schmooze with other New York City journalists.
