A 3-day festival investigating the often taboo subject of death.
From a play about loss and remembering called Tell it to The Bees on the Friday night, to Yoga for Grief and the Dead Good Death Café on the Sunday, there will be events everyone can take part in. These three events are listed separately on the events page and need to be booked in advance.
Saturday is a day filled with stalls, talks and events, all starting at 11am. There will be stalls where you can informally chat and find out alternatives within the funeral industry that will help you to make informed decisions. Among the stalls will be the Natural Death Centre. Two different Natural Burial Grounds. You can help weave a willow coffin, speak to a funeral director or search for relatives you may have buried in London Road Cemetery with help from the Coventry Family History Society- and so much more. All stalls will be in The Dell, under the stretch tent.
Sign up for a workshop-
The Art of Grief – local artist Michala Gyetvai will talk about using art to deal with grief and give participants a chance to have a go at creating a piece of art.
How do we deal with grief and loss? In this workshop we will look at artists who through their own experiences have dealt with this subject.
There will be opportunities to look at how you can use different creative ways, to help you emotionally, through poetry, stitching and drawing.
Participants need to bring a basic sewing kit and or materials for drawing.
This workshop is outside in the London Road Cemetery so please dress for the weather conditions. Places are limited, please book here https://historiccoventrytrust.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/1173654883
Local Crime author Nicky Downes will be running a workshop in the atmospheric Mortuary Chapel called Murder in the Crypt. 1-2pm
From Agatha Christie to Ann Cleeves. Where does our fascination with fictional murder originate from? Is it a healthy pastime to read about sudden death? What is it that fascinates us? Is it the mystery, or reading about the gory details of death itself?
Nicky Downes, a local crime writer, will take us on a journey of discovery from the gallows to the courtroom. Through quizzes and discussion, we’ll discover why so many of us are obsessed by true crime and fictional murder mysteries.
Nicky is the author of the DI Jack Kent and DI Amelia Barton of the NCA series set in Coventry and Birmingham. Her next novel is a psychological thriller which will be published in July.
The FREE workshop will last approximately an hour. Bring a pen and notebook or paper. There are only 12 places available so book early to avoid disappointment. You can reserve your place by emailing: [email protected]
Companion Voices will be hosting an hour long workshop- 2-3pm. Please meet outside the front of the Anglican chapel from 1.45pm.

We share our voices, compassion and loving presence when called upon to do so. Spend an hour in the company of Companion Voices, find out how we work, enjoy our singing and learn a couple of the songs we might sing at the bedside of someone nearing the end of life. Judith Silver, Natural Voice Practitioner and founder of Companion Voices will be leading this FREE 1-hour workshop for anyone interested in finding out more about the service we offer or exploring the possibility of becoming a Companion singer yourself. Please reserve your space by emailing- [email protected] Limited spaces available.
