Zuzeum is pleased to invite children aged 11-14 to a summer day camp, where we will explore language anemia* and linguistic resilience**! Collaborating with Latvian artists, children will discover the magic of linguistics and get creative with various mediums while experimenting with language from its core sounds and symbols. They will create visual art, learn the basics of Esperanto, meditate, journal, and make their own zines. 🗞️
Over five days, children will join educators, guest artists, linguists, and psychologists on a journey to challenge the linguistic barriers to understanding each other by exploring our sociocultural narratives and personal experiences. 🖊️
👩🏻🏫 Embracing the Reggio Emilia pedagogical approach, the camp follows the principles of creativity, project-based learning, environmental exploration, and collaborative engagement between educators and children. The absence of closed questions (with answers strictly “yes” or “no”) will allow children to gain confidence in a safe and curious environment.
The program champions linguistic diversity, intercultural dialogue, and emotional openness. By addressing themes of national resistance through language and the utopian nature of metalanguages*** participants will cultivate effective communication and learn to translate conflict events into artistic expression or non-traumatic experience.
📝 To sign up for the summer school, parents are asked fill out a registration form, and their child should complete the creative task. This helps us get to know your child better and assess their experience, openness to experimentation, and adaptability to a multicultural environment. Our goal is to assemble a group of children who are excited to collaborate and work together as a team.
❗️Please note that the number of places is strictly limited, and you will receive confirmation of participation by July 5. Registration deadline: June 21.
👩🏻🏫 Camp counselors: Estere Kajema, Tonya Kroplya
🫂 Invited artists and specialists: Viktor Timofeev, text group Orbita, Spāre Vītola, Katrīna Biksone and Krišjānis Beļavskis, lecturer Andrejs Lūkins, psychiatrist Matīss Pudāns.

👕 We invite you to choose an outfit you don’t mind getting messy!
