The play "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare is a tragedy that follows the story of Macbeth, a Scottish general who is initially praised by King Duncan for his bravery in battle. However, he becomes increasingly ambitious and is influenced by Lady Macbeth to murder Duncan, believing it to be the right thing to do. The witches' prophecy adds to Macbeth's ambition, predicting that he will become king and that Banquo's descendants will also be kings. Macbeth's reign is marked by paranoia and fear, leading to the murder of Banquo and his son Fleance. The play culminates in Macbeth's downfall, as he is confronted by the ghost of Banquo and the witches, which ultimately leads to the civil war and the death of Macbeth.
