Worship and Workshops, hosted at St. Paul's in Harrisburg
About this Event

Join Stevenson School for Ministry for a day of workshops and celebration! There will be opportunities for learning, fellowship, and worship together. This event will be held in person at St. Paul’s in Harrisburg.

A panel on the ministry of the baptized will start the day, with different orders of ministry describing their vocational path and how their faith is lived out in and beyond Sunday.

The workshops will be:

  • Kevin Barron: Combating Anti-Darkness Imagery in Christianity on the Path to Antiracism
Anti-darkness imagery, when used in a Christian context, lies at the heart of racism. This workshop will examine a few examples of this imagery and how the images used form an anti-darkness narrative that nourishes racism. We will also discuss ways to dismantle this imagery.
  • Celal Kamran: Kehinde & Christ -- Finding Liberation Theology in Pop Culture and Art.
Together we will discuss the work of Kehinde Wiley, painter of the Obama official presidential portrait, juxtaposed with theologians Gustavo Gutiérrez and James Cone as we ask the question, where is Christ among us?
  • Mark Scheneman: The Celtic Way: Discovering God in our Midst
This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of Celtic Christian culture, history, theology, spirituality, and engagement.
  • Shawn Strout: Liturgical Presence
As liturgical leaders, lay and ordained, our presence in worship matters. Through our voices, bodies, and use of space, we set the tone for how others experience worship. This workshop will actively engage participants in embodied practices for liturgical presence.

Lunch will be included for those who pre-register by May 9th. However, you are welcome to bring your own lunch if you have specific dietary restrictions.

The small cost associated with this day of workshops supports the SSFM offerings and programming. If cost would be a barrier, please reach out for financial assistance to attend this day of workshops: [email protected].
