About this Event
Join us for a FREE Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration featuring live and pre-recorded education and an altar-building workshop.
Day of the Dead is a family remembrance and religious tradition in Mexico that includes community celebration and bonding. Humorous portrayals of skeletons and death remind the living to make the most of their precious time together. Families build altars, cook and share traditional food to remember loved ones who have died.
We will walk you through the simple steps to create an altar to celebrate a loved one who has died. Altars typically include photos of the loved one/s, as well as objects representing their favorite things in life: food, drinks, books, flowers, etc.
Free art supplies will be provided by Alive to participants. You are encouraged to bring photos and mementos that represent your loved one. Altars will remain on display for the public at Alive's Grief Center, or you can take your altar with you for display at home after the event.
We are grateful to the Hispanic Family Foundation, Plaza Mariachi and the Baila program which contributed greatly to this effort!
