This year the Day of Fire "Big Burn" event will be on the 3rd Saturday in January (January 18, 2025) Scouts will work under the supervision of their unit leaders and volunteers from the AAC Sawyer Team to burn the excess driftwood that builds up and clogs our coves, freeing up space for more scouts to earn aquatic merit badges in the summer. Plus....Fire! Participating scouts will earn conservation service hours. No pre-registration is necessary, but participating units should provide CAST Lead Hilary Thornton an estimated headcount. Check-in will be with the CAST representatives at the Main Pavilion beginning at 8:00AM and dismissal will be by 7:00PM or earlier if the work is done. If a unit would like to"adopt" a cove and watch a fire burn down to coals later into the evening, let the organizers and CAAB rangers know.
Day of Fire Schedule: 8:00AM - 7:00PM in 3-hour shifts throughout the day. Commit to one 3-hour shift, multiple shifts, or all day for ultimate bragging rights
