International Women's Day Concert - IN HER WORDS: An Abre Tu Boca Stage of Writing hosted by Amanda Aileen Fisher.Abre Tu Boca is a social practice project that takes creative writing out of the upper echelon of "writers" to give the power of the voice back to the people. The project asserts: We all have words. Come use them. Abre Tu Boca reminds you that your voice is perfectly intact. It helps you to hear it. To identify and appreciate its particularity. It helps you to follow it to the page. And then to follow it. For real. Coincidentally, it also produces really good writing, and often from people who never called themselves “writers.” What does that mean? It means it’s transformative. And when we all have a voice that strong and clear, which we feel confident using… well, that’s revolutionary.
This event features 10 women writers from the popular Abre Tu Boca Women's Writing Circle reading and performing their orginal work in English and Spanish. This circle is the original of the project and has been going strong in Todos Santos for three years. The event is hosted by project founder, writer, and artist, Amanda Aileen Fisher.
