Discover a new side to this historic city with local historian David Reekie. We kick off the Step into Spring talks programme with an invitation to see a familiar city in an entirely new light as avid walker David Reekie reveals the odd, peculiar and little-known locations he has discovered when walking in and around the city.
Discover strange, mysterious, weird and wonderful locations in and around Canterbury where you can see extraordinary buildings and objects which are mostly unknown to the general public.
Join us for a glimpse into the secret places of the city and its surrounding countryside, and explore how that history fits into the wider history of England and the world.
David Reekie has lived and worked in the Canterbury area for over 40 years. After a career as a dentist he became fascinated by Canterbury's unique history. A keen walker and Chair of Canterbury Ramblers, he now leads many guided history walks in and around the city, created the Canterbury Rings walking Trails and gives talks to local groups and for the Canterbury Festival on subjects as varied as the Bayeux Tapestry, and the Shakespeare Authorship question. He is the author of several books and articles and has created three online Voicemap guided tours of the city.
