Two-time Lambda Award finalist David Pederson shares his latest mystery novel.

ABOUT THE BOOK

M**der at Union Station is the second book in the Mason Adler Mystery series.

Mason Adler is a gay fifty-year-old private detective, single, and living alone. His best friend, Lydia Dettling, also single, lives below him in a small apartment building on Central and Encanto. His other friends include the straight, tough, police detective Emil Hardwick, and the flamboyant decorator, Walter Waverly Wingate. Although Lydia, Emil, and Walter all know Mason is gay, as is Walter, it is not public knowledge, and Mason wants to keep it that way.

The book is again set in Phoenix in 1946 a few weeks after the events in the first book, M**der on Monte Vista. After the horrific discovery of a murdered woman inside a trunk in the Union Station baggage room, Mason is hired by the father of the murdered woman's roommate to determine who killed her. As Mason investigates, he soon discovers that suspects and motives abound. He realizes that nothing, and no one, are what they seem to be as he races to uncover the truth and bring the real murderer to justice without becoming the next victim.

Fingers are pointed to the woman's roommate and the station employee who picked up the trunk, but Mason has other thoughts. He weaves his way through a series of clues and suspects, and along the way gets into a couple of fights, including one with a rather tough older woman. When at last he confronts the murderer, he finds himself on the wrong end of a gun. His friend Lydia comes to his rescue and saves his life.

The story was inspired by a real-life event that happened in the 1930s, where a woman murdered her two friends and hid the bodies in trunks, which were then loaded onto a train bound for California.
