David Oates is general editor and founder of Kelson Books. He writes about the creative arts, nature, and urban life from Portland, Oregon.He is author of six books of nonfiction, including The Mountains of Paris: How Awe and Wonder Rewrote My Life and Paradise Wild: Reimagining American Nature. His essays have appeared in Georgia Review, Orion, and Creative Nonfiction and won nonfiction awards and Pushcart Prize nominations. The Heron Place won the 2015 Poetry Award and publication from Swan Scythe Press (San Francisco). He teaches the Wild Writers Seminars and was Kittredge Distinguished Visiting Writer at the University of Montana.
Emily Hyland’s debut collection, Divorced Business Partners, was published by Howling Bird Press in October 2024. Emily Hyland’s second collection of poetry, My Wise Little Ghost, is forthcoming with Trio House Press in July 2026. Her next collection, Post-Mastectomy Poems, will be published with Cornerstone Press, an imprint of the University of Wisconsin Press, in March 2027.
Hyland's poetry has appeared in The Brooklyn Review, Frontier Poetry, and The Hollins Critic, among others. She earned her MFA in poetry and her MA in English education from Brooklyn College.
Her cookbook, Emily: The Cookbook, was published by Ballantine Books, an imprint of Random House, in 2018. Hyland is the eponymous co-founder of the international restaurant groups Pizza Loves Emily + Emmy Squared Pizza.
Emily lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she writes and teaches yoga. Emily earned her 200 hour certification at Yogamaya in 2012 along with 75 hours of advanced training in therapeutics and has since studied Yin with Corina Benner through Wake Up Yoga in Philadelphia.
