An evening of food, music, and community at The Flamingo House, Hilton. The “Community of Love Grazing Table” by donation — cooked by Freya Cheffers — will raise funds to support Fremantle creatives and provide direct help to those sleeping rough. Expect Moroccan tajines, cous cous, roasted vegetables, salads, warm bread, hummus, and the famous Orange Syrup Cake. Singer-songwriter - Dave Watkins will be performing multiple solo acoustic sets over the night in celebration of the release of his new single Pickpocket and its forthcoming music video featuring members of local legends Silly Town Circus (Who are currently touring Europe and performing at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival). This show will be part of a run of dates following the release.
Inspired by Watkins’ wild European travels — from a late-night mugging in Paris to a mysterious encounter in Florence — Pickpocket captures the chaos and charm of life on the move, with theatrical pop twists and folk storytelling, laced with gritty, gypsy-tinged rhythms.
All donations from the night will go directly towards supporting Freo creatives and helping those who sleep rough. Freya personally takes funds to her “streetie mates,” supplying what they most need — from sleeping bags and shoes to pillows and tents — while also pushing for long-term solutions such as temporary tent accommodation and the reopening of Fremantle’s public toilets. Physical donations of these items are also welcome.
About Dave Watkins:
Best known as the longtime frontman of Perth progressive rock act Yalla Yalla (who has shared stages with bands such as Twelve Foot Ninja, Voyager, Yomi Ship and Mage), Watkins has spent the past two years carving out a new identity with his self-directed project, Dave Watkins & The Fair Weathers. The band soft-launched in 2023 with performances at Pox Eclipse and Blossom Festival, quickly establishing themselves as a high-energy live act dishing up octave-heavy guitars, radiant vocal harmonies, and the fire of Bruce Rose’s blues harmonica, tambourine, and hip-shaking stage presence.
Although much of Watkins’ recent focus has been on networking and performing solo international sets — including Zonnebende Festival (Netherlands), TAM Festival (London), and a guest spot with Philip Puxley & The Truth at Friends Club Festival (Canada) — his Australian appearances have been rare but memorable. They include a sold-out solo headline show celebrating his debut release The Last Shower and a set at The Wild Campout Festival, where he performed in full The Crow attire.
With strong industry connections through SXSW Austin, SXSW London, and WAMCON, Watkins is positioning The Fair Weathers for a major re-launch in January 2026. A full-length music video for Pickpocket will be released shortly after the single hits online stores, which features members of Freo’s own - Silly Town Circus. With its theatrical flair and eccentric characters, the video pushes Watkins further into a sonic and visual world coloured by circus swagger and dark cabaret undertones, expanding the band’s identity while staying true to its folk-rock storytelling roots.
