City Winery St. Louis presents Dave Hollister live on May 24th at 6pm and 9:30pm, part of a multi-show series!
Dave Hollister, an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, and record producer, is celebrated for his soulful voice, heartfelt lyrics, and ability to blend gospel influences with contemporary R&B. Born on August 17, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, Hollister's upbringing in a musically inclined family paved the way for his journey into the world of music. As a cousin of gospel greats Edwin, Walter, and Tramaine Hawkins, music was woven into his DNA from an early age.
Hollister initially gained recognition as a member of the iconic R&B group Blackstreet, where he contributed to their debut album and hits like "Before I Let You Go." However, his solo career, launched in 1999, catapulted him into the spotlight. His debut album, "Ghetto Hymns," featured the hit single "My Favorite Girl," establishing him as a leading voice in R&B.
Over the years, Hollister released a series of successful albums, including "Chicago '85... The Movie" (2000), which showcased his storytelling prowess and included fan favorites like "One Woman Man." His music often draws from real-life experiences, resonating deeply with listeners for its authenticity and relatability. Known as "The Ghetto Preacher," Hollister's unique sound bridges the gap between urban and spiritual music, reflecting his personal journey of redemption and faith. In addition to his so work, he has collaborated with notable artists like 2Pac, Mary J. Blige, and Gerald Levert, further solidifying his legacy in the music industry.
Hollister's dynamic live performances, rich vocals, and genuine connection to his audience have made him a mainstay in the R&B world. Beyond music, he is a devoted father, a man of faith, and a testament to perseverance, using his platform to inspire others through his artistry and personal testimony. With a career spanning decades, Dave Hollister remains a celebrated figure in R&B, continually touching hearts with his timeless music.
