About this Event
Join us on Thursday, March 5 at 7 PM as pediatrician David Gottsegen presents his book Mending the Body With the Mind.
About the Book
Explore the powerful link between mind and body in children's health and discover how integrating imagination into modern medicine can promote healing.
With over 30 years of experience in pediatric medicine, Dr. David Gottsegen shares how the profound connection between the mind and the body can change the way we practice children's health. In his unique approach, Dr. Gottsegen emphasizes the use of a special superpower of children: Their active imaginations
Dr. Gottsegen includes stories from his extensive years of practice as well as the latest behavioral research to expand on how imagination-and specifically clinical hypnosis and meditation-can help treat and alleviate fears about pokes, headaches, stomachaches, bedwetting, sleep issues, tic disorders, sports medicine, and a host of other common pediatric disorders.
Parents who pick up this book can learn how to effectively advocate for their children when seeking healthcare and help them avoid needless discomfort and tests. Together with the knowledge in this book, parents can teach children skills to avoid chronic pain, sleep better, overcome anxiety and depression, and lead healthier happier lives.
About the Author
Dr. David Gottsegen--Dr. Dave, as he is known to most patients and parents-- is a
community pediatrician who is passionate about the power of the mind and spirit to heal. He worked for most of his 4-decade career at Holyoke Pediatric Associates, where he saw children referred to him from the Pioneer Valley and beyond with chronic pain, habit disorders, sleep problems, ADHD, and more. He set up a Comfort Committee at HPA to help children overcome the fear and discomfort of needle pokes. Moreover, he has used the principles of the power of language, the use of the imagination, and relaxation in all aspects of my practice.
Dr. Gottsegen is certified by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and the
American Board of Medical Hypnosis (ABMH) in clinical hypnosis, and by the Heart Math
Institute in the use of Heart Math biofeedback. He has taught locally, nationally, and
internationally.
Mending the Body with the Mind: Harnessing Kids' Superpowers to Heal and Stay
Healthy is the culmination of his life's work--filled with both inspiring stories and the latest
scientific research. The book explains how the proper language, a child's imagination and the mind-body connection may be used to help treat shot fears, headaches, stomachaches, sleep problems, Tourette's Syndrome, bedwetting, respiratory disorders, headaches, ADHD, autism, anxiety, phobias, and sports performance issues. Dr. Gottsegen hopes that Mending the Body with the Mind helps to trigger a new, optimistic, patient centered paradigm in healthcare.
