It’s not a conference and not a typical networking event — just a thoughtful way to learn something interesting and meet people who share similar interests.
The Human Salon is a series of intimate, after-work gatherings in Paris for people who enjoy ideas and real conversations.
Each edition brings together a small group of curious professionals to explore a topic through a short talk, followed by discussion and mingling in a bar or similar venue.
About this Session
Dating and new relationships often come with uncertainty — and when partners come from different cultural backgrounds, that uncertainty can intensify. Misunderstandings may escalate faster, conflicts can feel more personal, and certain issues tend to repeat.
In this session, we explore dating across cultures through a psychological lens. The talk looks at how cultural values and identity shape attraction, communication, and conflict, and why good intentions are sometimes not enough to prevent misunderstandings.
Rather than offering advice or “rules,” the focus is on insight and language: helping people better understand their own dating experiences, recognize common friction points, and reflect more clearly on difference.
Topics may include:
- Cultural humility as a relational skill
- How cultural values influence expectations around dating and intimacy
- Common friction points in intercultural relationships

About the Speaker
Gina Keefer is a psychologist specialising in relationship dynamics and intercultural communication. With formal training in clinical psychology and additional expertise in cultural competence in relationships, she explores how identity, background, and cultural expectations shape how we connect with others. Her work focuses on helping people deepen understanding, foster empathy, and navigate complexity in relationships that span cultures.
