OUR PRESENTER:
Writer, lecturer, and space artist Michael Carroll has 34 books in print. He is a science journalist, novelist, and children’s author. His latest novel is a quantum mystery called Plato’s Labyrinth: Dinosaurs, Ancient Greeks and Time Travel. His latest non-fiction book is Beyond Artemis: Human Missions to the Moons of the Solar System.
Carroll is a Fellow and founding member of the International Association for the Astronomical Arts, and recipient of the Lucien Rudaux award for lifetime achievement in the astronomical arts. He was a fellow in the 2016-17 Antarctic Artists and Writers Program of the U.S. National Science Foundation. One of his paintings is on the surface of Mars—in digital form—aboard the Phoenix lander. He likes orange marshmallow circus peanuts, which have been outlawed by the nutritional councils of several countries.
PRESENTATION:
Humankind is returning to the moon, but it won’t stop there. The international Artemis program is designed to enable exploration much farther afield. Care to float around on the Martian moons? How about a voyage to the icy cliffs of Callisto or the thundering volcanoes of Enceladus? How about a 3D-printed home on our own moon? Michael Carroll invites you to explore the possibilities, as well as take a quick look back at how we got to the moon in the first place. Come see the exotic landscapes of other worlds and the gadgets that will get us there.
