NEW THIS YEAR - We are offering discounted group ticket prices for those who wish to get together with their friends. Discounts are available for groups of 4 or more in the 6hr Absconder, and groups of 3 or more in the 12hr Delinquent events.This major event is an endurance race, whereby the entrants determine their own route from HMP Dartmoor with the aim to achieve the furthest distance (as the crow flies) in a given time.
We are lucky enough to be able to use the fantastic prison setting for your escape with a unique start planned. It’s also a perfect place for your friends and family to see you off and take some fantastic pictures of your escape.
Uniquely, the event is professionally organised by a local charity volunteer mountain rescue team, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Plymouth to whom all funds raised from the event go. These essential funds help their objectives ensure the 24/7/365 safety of all members of the public in Dartmoor, Plymouth and surrounding areas.
There are three categories, the 6-hour Absconder, 12-hour Delinquent or the 24-hour Felon, all events start at midday sharp with our very unique start! You plan your own route and take it at your own pace!
All escapees will be fitted with a GPS tracker which is monitored for the full duration of the event. Your escape will be measured 'as the crow flies' so plan your escapes carefully! Support crews are welcome but not compulsory.
Previous years have seen members of Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Plymouth) as wardens! Will they this year? Who knows.
Watch out! You could get caught.
But don't worry if you get caught.....the penalty, is a selfie with the warden and you'll soon be on your way again! This proved to be a great hit last time, a good bit of fun and a great way for us to capture your escapes!
You will receive a medal, but due to the nature of the event, this will be at registration.
Refreshments and parking are available at the event start. In the event of our parking spaces becoming full parking will be in Princetown village (£2 all day). Once the event has set off vehicles will need to be moved off of the prison site.
