Darshan Trio at the Wende Museum

Darshan Piano Trio (Dominic Cheli, Vijay Gupta, Yoshika Masuda) performs the stunning piano trios of Los Angeles-based composer Reena Esmail, whose work spanning the traditions of Hindustani and Western classical music has created a syncretic and gripping musical style. Her piano trio, premiered in 2019, was written out of her deep love of the piano trio repertoire, particularly the work of the Basque composer Maurice Ravel, who turns 100 this year. Ravel's piano trio, dashed off in just a few weeks before he left to serve in World War I, is a work of brilliant synchronicity balanced with tenderness.
