Darkroom has never been a money-maker of a venture but has plodded along making enough money to break even and keep on top of our usual operational expenses.
Both owners of Darkroom also work day jobs, and do hundreds of hours of unpaid work at Darkroom to keep the venue plodding along. We're resourceful folks who know how to stretch money and make ends meet. Much of our commercial hospitality equipment, and our PA is second hand and over 20 years old, and has served us well until now - with our PA and our commercial fridge both failing in the same week, this year has been a real challenge.
Boosted reached out to us after seeing our recent fundraiser gig and invited us to take part in a match fund Boosted campaign. This means for every $1 our community donates, another $1 is matched thanks to Arts Foundation (up to a maximum match fund of $3000.) This means if you donate $10 to Darkroom's campaign, Darkroom actually gets $20!! Or if you buy a $15 ticket to this gig, Darkroom actually gets $30! How good!
Darkroom was born from the earthquakes, recovered under new ownership after one of its first owners went bankrupt, made it though covid, and is now navigating new challenges as the cityscape changes around us leading to tensions with our new residential neighbours over noise. With promising PC21 changes proposed, we think Darkroom’s got some life left in her yet - if we can just get through this winter ❤
