This year at Darchei Noam, we greet the arrival of June, the month of summer promises, with a special Shabbaton featuring the history-making Rabbis Dennis and Sandy Sasso, recently named “Living Legends” by the Indiana Historical Society. This dynamic couple, the first practicing rabbinical couple in world Jewish history, met at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College from whence both received their ordination in 1974, Sandy being the first woman ordained as a Reconstructionist rabbi and only the third formally ordained female rabbi in Jewish history. Both Rabbis are scholars and prolific writers who will be sharing their knowledge with us over this exciting weekend. The event will commence with a Kabbalat Shabbat dinner and engaging discussions on Friday, May 31. The learning will continue on Saturday, June 1, with a post-kiddush lesson titled “Looking Back and Bearing Witness: The Story of Lot’s Wife.” The weekend will culminate on Sunday night, June 2, with the Rabbis delivering the annual Elka Klein Memorial Lecture on “Judaism for the 21st Century: A Reconstructionist Approach.”
