Artist David ‘DJ’ Johnson is well known for his stunning plein air paintings – he is an adventurer who likes to climb mountains and paint extraordinary landscapes.
This workshop will be taught through a series of demonstrations and one to one tuition, showing you a variety of techniques and methods for applying paint, including alternatives to brushes. You will study and play with colour, light and textures, allowing for individual creative expression.
The workshop involves exploring the light, contrast and textures found in woodlands. DJ will be teaching a variety of techniques using palette knives, brushes (including a rigger brush), fingers and possibly sponges to achieve a wide range of textures and patterns which are specifically found in wooded areas. The aim is to find those shafts of light and recreate them. DJ will supply photographs of the woodland and will also bring along some of his own paintings to show you!
