🌟Chicago-born, now DC-based artist Dante’ Pope honors his hometown hero, Sam Cooke, in a soulful musical tribute. Like Cooke, Dante’ began his musical journey in the church, honing his talents as both a drummer and a vocalist before branching out into a variety of genres. Sam Cooke’s warm, intimate lyrics captured the spirit of Chicago and the life he led there. Though his secular career was brief, it left a lasting impact, most notably with the timeless anthem, “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
In this performance, Dante’ will delve into Sam Cooke’s iconic catalog, blending his own original compositions with reimagined arrangements of Cooke’s classics. He’ll also pay homage to other legendary Chicago artists, including Curtis Mayfield, The Staple Singers, and Donny Hathaway.
