Dancehall is a style of dance, music, and culture from Jamaica. The music began in the 1970s among the working class who were not permitted to attend upscale parties. The style of dance emerged in the 1980s and was birthed out of an ongoing need for expression and escape from hardship.
THREE OPEN-LEVEL DANCEHALL CLASSES, exploring the three eras of Dancehall - old school, middle school, and new school.
Classes by Tasha Tazz Ricketts, Tabby Rockstar, and Tekee Karlo.
DISCUSSION PANEL featuring key individuals who played a critical role in the core foundation of Dancehall Culture in the Toronto dance industry, highlighting an array of topics including the appropriation of dancehall culture.
