Join instructor Sheila May for a special Bellydance Fitness class experience!
Pricing is $15 per class for advance reservations via Eventbrite (PayPal and credit card payments accepted) or $10 drop-in at the door (onsite payments accepted via cash, check, or Venmo only). Space will be limited to 10 attendees per class.
A life-long performing artist, Sheila is dedicated to the study, performance, and education of Middle Eastern, South Asian, Latin, and various World dance forms. Sheila co-founded Karma and served as Artistic Director for this Ann Arbor-based belly dance troupe for 8 years. Dance is a place where people of all ages and all cultures can share emotion and communicate without the need for a single spoken word. That is a truly special experience and it's one that she hopes to share with many people throughout her lifetime.
Bellydance Fitness class is a fun and exciting introduction to this dance form, no experience necessary to join! You'll experience strength building exercises, deep stretches, cardio drills, and fun choreography customized for bellydancers and non-bellydancers alike. Bellydance fitness is a great conditioning class that utilizes the movement of middle eastern dance to target the core, upper arms, and upper legs. It is a medium intensity workout focusing on strength and toning through bellydance. The program is a follow-the-leader form of movement, without too much emphasis on mastering the dance form.
Please note for our Bellydance Fitness classes you will need to bring a yoga mat with you. We will no longer be supplying complimentary yoga mats for use as was previously done. Only water in closed containers are allowed in the dance studio. We dance barefoot or in socks and recommend well fitting athletic wear in lieu of loose, baggy attire that is not conducive to seeing your body movements. The Phoenix Center is located at 220 S. Main Street, Ann Arbor, MI. This is approximately at the intersection of Liberty and Main. The ground level entry will lead you upstairs to the second floor and our door is to the right. Street parking in downtown Ann Arbor is free after 6pm, on Sundays, and all federal holidays. There is no ADA accessible entrance.
