WEDNESDAY, 26. 6. 2024
15:00 – 18:00 Katja Završnik: What do I want from my dancing and teaching and how do I want to affect others, what are my goals and what is the scene I want to coexist in?
What do I want? What are my goals?
Why do I teach? For the recognition, for sharing the passion and love for the dance or because I am the only one dancing and want to spread the dance and create the community?
What and who do I want in our dance scene? What are my values?
What is important for the dancers to have? Do I respect my values when I teach, do I follow them? Do I do what I preach?
Am I the only one teaching or are there multiple teachers at our studio? Do we follow a specific curriculum or is the material and the way of teaching an individual choice? What is the difference?
The importance of SMART goals and what is the difference between teaching regular weekly classes and intensive weekend workshops.
How important is the exposure to the music?
What purpose do the social dance nights have? Do our students attend the parties and where do they happen?
The difference between a good social dancer, a good competitor, a good performer and a good instructor and why does it matter.
Teaching on an international level: what does it mean and how to get there.

13:00 – 15:00 Katja Završnik: Structure of the class and the challenge of different class levels and abilities.
Class structure: warm-up options (individual, guided, partner dance, intensive warm-up), a recap of a previous class, learning new material or ideas, choreography, cool down and stretching.
Different class levels and abilities, how to adjust to them and how to teach in a way that is challenging and encouraging for every individual.
Disabilities or restrictions – how to be aware of them and how to include them in your classes.
15:30 – 17:30 Katja Završnik: Psychology, social interactions and dance etiquette.
The importance of understanding the basics of psychology.
How to deal with negativity in the class.
Respectful way of treating others and social etiquette.
Acceptance of rejection and appreciation of different needs and interests.
Dance etiquette and how to incorporate it in your classes.
FRIDAY, 28. 6. 2024
13:00 – 15:00 Špela Premelč: Teaching & Learning swing (dance) to children, and teenagers in comparison to adults and older people.
A short intro into psychology.
Physical development and capabilities.
Differences and similarities.
Approaches for kids and teenagers.
Ideas for how to bring jazz music closer to kids and teenagers.
Approaches of andragogy for older people, seniors.
15:30 – 17:30 Špela Premelč: How can we / Should we incorporate other dance styles into teaching swing dance (example of contemporary dance, “jazz” ballet).
A short history of contemporary dance/Jazz Ballet characteristics.
What is common, and what is different?
Body awareness, space awareness, community vs individual.
Examples.

SATURDAY, 29. 6. 2024
11:00 – 12:00 Katja Završnik: Working on yourself.
An example of a warm out and a short workout (comfortable clothes and yoga mats for this class are recommended).
Taking care of your health and well-being.
The importance of self-improvement.
12:30 – 14:30 Katja Završnik: Overall practice session.
Teaching each other and giving each other feedback:
2x 15-20 minute class with a warm-up, teaching a move/idea, cool down
