Experience a compelling contemporary dance performance by the acclaimed Bulareyaung Dance Company (BDC), founded in 2015 by Paiwan choreographer Bulareyaung Pagarlava, on Saturday, August 16, at 4:00 pm in the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) Allan Houser Art Park. Renowned for its powerful and expressive movement vocabulary, BDC integrates Indigenous knowledge and cultural memory into each performance, developed through ongoing research and fieldwork within Indigenous communities in Taiwan. The performance will feature contemporary dance with elements of improvisation, offering a glimpse into the company’s distinctive approach to storytelling through movement.Immediately following the performance, a Q&A session with Bulareyaung Pagarlava and company members will provide further insight into BDC’s creative process, the role of Indigenous identity in their work, and their newly released documentary Dancing Home. This film, which delves into the company’s journey and artistic philosophy, will be on view in MoCNA’s 2nd Floor Media Gallery from August 15–21.
This program is generously supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, R.O.C., under the Taiwan Content Plan.
