Since then he worked for the Butoh companies such as Hakutohboh with Yoko Ashikawa, his own company, Gnom and Dance Medium with Yuri Nagaoka. He has held workshops, created and presented Butoh pieces actively both in Japan and overseas.
Yuri Nagaoka
Yuri trained in classical and modern ballet as a child. She was interested in various forms of performing arts and encountered Butoh in her late teens. Since then, she has been actively creating and showing her own works both in Japan and overseas. She started the Butoh Company, Dance Medium with Seisaku and has performed group pieces since 2005.
Butoh workshop by Yuri Nagaoka and Seisaku
The first part of this workshop, Yuri teaches her own physical practice inspired by different body works such as ballet, Yoga, Noguchi Gymnastic, Noguchi Seitai, Taichi, Karate, etc. to prepare the body to be neutral and energetic. It brings us to the philosophy of Butoh.
The second part is taught by Seisaku. He learned Butoh under Tatsumi Hijikata and Yoko Ashikawa, who is known as Hijikata’s most prominent disciple. He developed his Butoh method by keeping the most important essence from both of them. His methods place emphasis on how to make the body empty.
If you can be empty, you will find the possibility to become anything you want.
Yuri and Seisaku believe everybody can learn from them.
