We invite the kids of the Ohio County Public Library to explore literacy through dance and movement with this special program provided in partnership with the Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance.Miss Kim, a teaching artist from Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance, will read “Straight Line Wonder,” written by Mem Fox with pictures by Mark Rosenthal. While reading, she will have the children create dance and movement phrases to accompany the story. The story emphasizes the importance of being true to oneself and embracing individuality. This is a children’s story about three straight lines who are friends. One friend no longer wants to be a straight line. This friend is curious about other shapes and movements and wants to explore the differences.
Attendees will be introduced to the five basic elements of dance: body, action, space, time, and energy.
Best suited for 1st-4th graders.
