***About Makiti Camara
He began his training in traditional dance at the age of seven with great Guinean masters. This training enabled him to direct two ballets in Guinea, especially the Ballet Matam, and to join the group „Camara percussions“. Makiti participates in numerous artistic events such as performances, video clips and workshops in Japan, Taiwan, Gambia, Senegal, Mexico, Israel, Spain, etc. He is part of the company Kobe Na Awati, directed by Aïssata Kouyaté.
You can also take part in the percussion workshops offered by the recognised master Lancei Dioubate!
***Lancei is a professional musician and music teacher who has been living and teaching in Leipzig since 2018. He comes from a griot family and has been playing the djembé and other West African instruments (including the ngoni and balafon) since his earliest childhood. He learnt music and singing from renowned masters of the national ballet ensemble of Guinea ("Ballet National de Guinée") such as Lauren Camara, Yamoussa Camara, Fatouabou Camara and Lansana Dioubate. As a master drummer ("Djembéfola"), he has been passing on his musical knowledge to students all over the world since 1990 and has toured Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, the USA, Japan and France, among others. In his music education programmes, he not only imparts musical knowledge to participants, but also the socio-cultural significance of rhythms from Guinea.
