A fundraising event to commemorate and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1965 reopening of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds – when it was restored from a barrel store to a working theatre once more.
Dame Judi Dench and Sir Derek Jacobi will join us on stage in conversation with Richard Clifford, touching on their friendship, working relationship and anecdotes from their extensive careers. Expect anecdotes, tips and lots of laughs from these long-time friends and colleagues.
Our celebratory event has an additional post-show reception available (limited tickets available). If you would like to join us on stage with Judi and Derek after the show, please select the correct ticket at the beginning of the checkout process. 60 years ago, the hard work, determination and passion for theatre led to the reopening of Theatre Royal – the 1960s restoration took six years of tireless fundraising and huge community efforts. It is an intrinsic part of Theatre Royal’s story and created a lasting legacy for future generations.
Theatre Royal is a registered charity and relies on fundraising to continue to ensure the future of the theatre today and for future generations. Over 25% of the theatre’s income is raised through fundraising activity and core grant funding. The theatre’s vision is to be a creative powerhouse for our region, using courageous storytelling to spark positive social change – bringing people together to share unforgettable theatrical experiences. 53% of Theatre Royal’s income comes from charitable activities such as fundraising events, their heritage programme and in-house productions. Just as it was 60 years ago, Theatre Royal sits at the heart of its community and its stability, and ability to thrive, is ensured through vital support from individuals and local businesses.
