About this Event
In this one-day class, students will learn the essential skills needed for effectively sharpening knives using both natural and synthetic sharpening stones. This class is particularly beneficial for those who have forged their own knives, as they are encouraged to bring their creations to practice sharpening techniques.
What to Expect:

Introduction to Sharpening Stones: Participants will learn about the different types of sharpening stones available, including natural and synthetic options. Allen will discuss the characteristics of each type, including grit levels and how they influence the sharpening process.
Sharpening Techniques:
Basic Techniques: Allen will demonstrate the foundational techniques for sharpening knives, including proper hand positioning, angle maintenance, and stroke techniques. Students will practice these techniques on their own knives, receiving personalized guidance.
Using Natural Stones: Students will explore the unique qualities of natural stones, learning how to utilize their characteristics for effective sharpening. Allen will share tips for selecting and using natural stones to achieve a refined edge.
Using Synthetic Stones: Participants will also practice sharpening on synthetic stones, which offer consistency and ease of use. Allen will demonstrate how to effectively use these stones to achieve a sharp, durable edge.
Maintaining Your Edge: Allen will cover essential maintenance techniques to keep knives sharp between sharpening sessions. This includes honing and the proper use of strops.
