About this Event
Welcome to our annual celebration of Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs Dalloway”
A Bloomsbury Walk (11:30am – 12.30pm) for All Day ticket holders only.
Guided by Clara Jones, author of “Virginia Woolf: Ambivalent Activist”, we will haunt and saunter in the streets and squares of Virginia Woolf’s beloved Bloomsbury (details of meeting place to follow).
Mrs Dalloway in Town (2.00pm - 3.00pm)
Join us here at Hatchards Piccadilly for an in-conversation with two walkers and writers, Matthew Beaumont (author of “The Walker: On Finding and Losing Yourself in the Modern City” and most recently “How We Walk: Frantz Fanon and the Politics of the Body”) and John Rogers (author of “This Other London: Adventures in the Overlooked City” and most recently “Welcome to New London: journeys and encounters in the post-Olympic city” to reflect on walking in London both in Mrs Dalloway’s 1920s and today.
3:00pm – 4:00 pm glass of wine & a cupcake for those with All Day tickets.
Mrs Dalloway in the Country (4.00pm - 5.00pm)
Playing loosely on Mrs Dalloway’s memories of life at Bourton, we welcome Harriet Baker (author of “Rural Hours: The Country Lives of Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Townsend Warner and Rosamond Lehmann”) and Alexandra Harris (author of “Romantic Moderns” and, most recently "The Rising Down: Lives in a Sussex Landscape”) to discuss walking in the country for Virginia Woolf and other writers, including Harriet and Alexandra themselves. This event will be chaired by Maggie Humm, author of "The Bloomsbury Photographs" (available September 2024).
