From 27 August 2025, Maxim Boxer Gallery (Lāčplēša iela 48, Rīga, LV-1011, Latvia) will host a solo exhibition by photographer Daiga Atvare. The exhibition is curated by Elizaveta Olevinskaya.Daiga Atvare is an autodidact who developed her distinctive style through practice, observation, and a rare combination of instinctive taste and visual intuition. She does not construct scenes — she watches. Her work is a continuous search ongoing both before and after the shutter clicks. In "... and cigarettes" Atvare captures the unspoken — moments when quiet narratives unfold just beyond direct view yet remain no less significant.
The exhibition’s title shifts focus from the object itself — the cigarette — to the ellipsis, symbolizing what lies beyond the frame. Many of those depicted are friends of Daiga, whose natural closeness creates the impression that conversations continue beyond the images. Cigarettes in these works are not standalone objects but elements of an atmosphere — relaxed, open, and sincere, arising where conventions are absent.
The exhibition will run until September 25. Admission is free.
