About this Event
In celebration of the 2023 Banff Centre Film Festival World Tour stop in Rapid City (April 17 & 18 at the Elks Theater), the Dahl Arts Center presents Alex Massa in concert for one night only!
Born and raised in South Dakota, trumpeter Alexander Massa is influenced by the stories and actions of Water Protectors nationwide. “Water Music” is comprised of musical reflections on the movements to protect our environment and our lives. Massa was deeply impacted and inspired by Indigenous efforts to protect the sanctity of clean water. He studied Lakota legends and researched Indigenous and Land Rights through books, interviews, speeches and articles. He witnessed the violence against Water Protectors at Standing Rock through live broadcasts while abroad. This concert and the musical scores share a powerful reflection of the knowledge and inspiration he received and express the deep-rooted need for clean water via traditional indigenous wisdom and modern-day activism.
