Why We’re Raising Funds for Young Lives vs Cancer
This event is very personal for us. Mr C – the host and creator of Dad Joke Bingo – is the proud grandfather of Laurel, born in November 2024. At just three months old, Laurel was diagnosed with brain cancer.
She is currently being treated at Oxford Children’s Hospital, with support from Wexham Park Hospital. The medical teams at both hospitals have been exceptional. But cancer impacts much more than just health – it affects every aspect of family life.
That’s where Young Lives vs Cancer have stepped in.
Laurel’s parents, Eleanor and Matt, have been supported by Kirsty, a dedicated Young Lives vs Cancer social worker. From help with parking, financial support options and practical resources, to guidance through difficult conversations with employers and family, Kirsty’s kind and consistent support has made a huge difference. Her presence, alongside the resources and care offered by the charity, has helped them face an incredibly challenging time with strength and resilience.
Every day in the UK, 12 more children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer is there to help them and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them – but they rely on public support to keep going.
