The Dougherty Arts Center’s Artists in Residence will be hosting demonstrations of their artistic practice during the Austin Studio Tour. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists and get a sneak peak at the work being created for the annual resident exhibit, opening November 22nd. These casual events are free and open to the visitors as part of the Dougherty Arts Center’s Austin Studio Tour programming. Check out one or come for all!

Saturday, November 8
2-4pm
Chance Ramirez: Underglaze Transfers
Chance Ramirez will walk participants through the creation of underglaze transfers. Techniques that will be demonstrated and discussed include painting and screen printing on paper to create unique designs and apply them to leather hard clay.
Sunday, November 9
2-3:30pm
Anna Gadzhikurbanova: Multilayered Clay Pieces
During this open studio style demonstration, Anna Gadzhikurbanova will talk about her process of creating multilayered clay pieces: from shaping an enclosed organic form out of colored clay, to carving and adding texture, and finally nesting the forms inside each other. Visitors can ask questions and take a close look at how these pieces come together as the artist works.
Saturday, November 15
3-4pm
Diane Sung: Sculpting the Human Figure and Props
Learn how artist Diane Sung approaches sculpting the human figure, capturing gesture and balance. Participants will learn the basics of solid sculpting and how to make and use fun props in the process.
Sunday, November 16
1-2pm
Gargi Sharma: Weathered Ceramic Surfaces
This demo, hosted by artist Gargi Sharma, will explore how the effervescent antacid Eno produces lava-like, weathered surfaces on clay. Sharma will discuss and demonstrate the different stages of application, clay bodies, and firing temperatures that influence these effects, opening up new possibilities for ceramic surfaces.
