About Indigo...
“Indigo Spoken,” Poetry & Song is a lyrical reading of original poems from “Indigo,” “Blush,” and “Onyx,” poetry books by author Cyrene Renee. It also features key songs that inspired several sections of the books. Allowing for intimate insight, by blending music and literature on one stage.
This show features Black women artists/vocalists to include a classic from Ms. Nina Simone and currently Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. It pays an homage to the women who have come before her and who stand with her in the modern age of art and creativity. With the various unique arrangements composed by Cyrene herself of the timeless songs, she has managed to create something all her own, relative to her heart and understanding.
“Indigo Spoken” is different. It is eclectic and honest. Throughout the performance, Cyrene shares her moments of clarity and in some cases, resistance to her openness and vulnerability. It is more than a show. It is an accelerated pause in time to be shared. And with that, the courage to embracing the now, manifests with every song sung and every word spoken.
