2PM SHOW NOW ADDED!--
After a thrilling run of concerts, Cygnus Arioso returns to the Perth Concert Hall stage to present two enthralling works for strings.
The evening begins with J. S. Bach’s beloved “Double” concerto. This powerful work radiates a unique vibrancy from the outset, traversing its dramatic arc across layered contrapuntal lines. The rare elegance of the slow second movement hints at the transcendental, before a vigorous finale bursts forth to conclude the work. Cygnus Arioso’s founder Akiko Miyazawa welcomes special guest Emily Leung to join her as a soloist in this cherished musical delight.
Then, Bartok’s Divertimento for Strings finds the composer in a neoclassic mode, offering a work of stunning energy and clarity. Juxtaposing full tutti gestures with moments of soloistic interplay, the work proceeds from its dance-inspired first movement into Bartok’s signature foreboding darkness in the second. The third movement sets off at pace again, featuring a gypsy-inspired violin solo on the way to its lively conclusion to end a magical evening.
