About this Event
Cycles
Through instrumental and electroacoustic music, movement, and immersive design we explore the tension between the desire to hold on and the inevitability of change—the inability to control time. The work unfolds through the metaphors of the seasons, times of day, and stages of life, each representing a moment in the continual process of transformation.
Blending composed material, structured improvisation, and archival recordings in the sound design, Cycles moves fluidly between the acoustic and the electronic. Evolving textures and fragments from musical history—echoes of Bach, film soundtracks, and ambient synthesizers—interweave to form a landscape that feels both traditional and experimental.
Our ensemble consists of an eclectic collection of musicians, with backgrounds from classical, new music, and folk traditions from around the world including traditional East Asian and flamenco music. Each performer acts as both musician and designer, contributing to the visual and spatial world. Our show is a multidisciplinary fusion of music and theatre with a specific thematic and aesthetic vision. Lighting, staging, and movement mirror the music’s progression as we navigate through the cycle, culminating in a return with newfound perspective and growth.
