CYCLE THE VIRGINIA CREEPER TRAIL
Friday-Sunday, September 9-11 #AD2205
Bring your gravel bike to Damascus, Virginia for two days of gorgeous riding, mostly on well-maintained gravel tracks.
Drive up on Friday afternoon, September 9, and check into the beautiful new Brinkwaters in downtown Damascus (open concept rooms with two queen beds and full kitchen). The trip includes two nights lodging, double occupancy. Meals are not included.
On Saturday we climb the 17 miles east out of Damascus up to Whitetop, a 1,900 foot climb, passing many beautiful waterfalls along the way. After a snack break up there (bring your own), we rattle back down into Damascus for a 35-mile day. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38795137
On Sunday, we ride west out of town, covering 16 miles to Abington for lunch. Another beautiful ride, this one rolls along the south fork of the Holston River and through lovely farmland, then climbs up to Abington, a 760 foot climb. Again, the climbing is sustained, but never steep. The return is a bit easier, with 660 feet of climbing back up into Damascus. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38795184
After Sunday’s ride, you can shower and change for the drive home in the one room we are keeping for a third night.
You will enjoy this weekend if you are an experienced cyclist, have a good gravel bike and are comfortable with sustained climbs (never steep) and 3 to 4 hours of saddle time per day.
We are looking for a group of eight. Join us!
