Materials:
The price includes all the essential materials: cyanotype chemicals, paper, brushes, equipment to create cyanotype.
You can bring your own additional surfaces to print on (options will be discussed during the first class) and a notebook.

What to Expect:
Discover the beauty of one of the first photography techniques invented, cyanotype – also known as a blueprint. We will take the time to explore printing on various surfaces, and object. Cyanotype is a lovely process that is simple, fun, and a flexible art-making experience.
Learn the history and process of a cyanotype during this workshop. Each class includes step-by-step instructions on how to develop your print, as well as individual consultation. You will gain the tools and knowledge to be able to continue making cyanotypes at home on your own, explore new ideas, and continue experimenting. You will leave this workshop with artworks you can frame for yourself, or give as gifts to your friends and family.
What is a cyanotype?
Cyanotype is a photographic process that when two chemicals mix together they become light-sensitive and produce a cyan-blue print using UV light. This process was invented by John Herschel in 1842. This process was used by botanist Anna Atkins in 1843 to create the very first book that had photographic illustrations, Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is suitable for ages 16 and up, beginners, as well as artist exploring alternative processes. This workshop is held in English.
Day 1: Learn cyanotype techniques
- We will learn the history of the cyanotype, and discover how artists have used this process.
- Go through the cyanotype process: mixing chemicals, coating paper, and exposing to light.
- Prepare various materials and objects to create cyanotypes.

Day 2: Create your own cyanotype
- Studio Work day
- Building your own composition
- Guidance on exposure, development and troubleshooting
