Welcome to the Wet Cyanotype Workshop at Nafasi Art Space!Carola Mokveld will teach us how to create beautiful blue prints using a process called wet cyanotype. Here’s how it works:
1. Coating the Paper:
We’ll start by brushing a special liquid onto our paper. This liquid is a mix of chemicals that are sensitive to sunlight.
Make sure to coat the paper evenly and let it dry in a dark place to keep it light-sensitive until we’re ready to use it.
2. Getting it Wet:
Before we take our coated paper outside, we’ll make it wet. You can sprinkle or spray water onto the paper. This wetness helps create interesting patterns and textures on your final print.
Feel free to experiment by adding soap bubbles, vinegar, or different types of salts to the water for various effects.
3. Adding Objects:
Now comes the fun part! Place objects like leaves, flowers, or lace on the wet paper. These objects will block the sunlight and create shapes on your print.
Be creative with your choices and arrangements to make unique designs.
4. Sunlight Exposure:
Take your prepared paper outside and leave it in the sun. The sunlight will react with the special liquid, changing its color.
The areas covered by your objects will stay lighter, creating a beautiful contrast.
5. Rinsing:
After the paper has been in the sun for the right amount of time (about 10-20 minutes, depending on the intensity of the sunlight), bring it back inside.
Rinse the paper with water to wash away any unreacted chemicals. This will reveal your final print.
