The cyanotype process is a UV printing process that requires sunlight for the exposure. This class is weather-dependent and will be rescheduled if we will not be seeing the sun on the day of the class.
We will be creating cyanotypes using the photogram/contact printing technique, which involves laying objects or negatives directly onto the coated paper and exposing through them. We encourage all attendees to bring their own objects to print with, but we will have some items available to use. Items that work best are flat and semitransparent. Think organics like leaves and flowers, fabrics like lace or organza, or interestingly shaped objects like chains, corkscrews, cookie-cutters, etc. These items will be sandwiched between the print and a pane of glass, so keep this in mind when choosing objects. While negatives work great for this process, we will be making 8x10 prints, so 35mm/120 negatives will not cover the entire image (no enlarging offered).
All paper coating will be done prior to the class in order to ensure a smooth experience for everyone. After completing the printing process, all prints will need to dry before they can be handled. They will be sleeved and ready for pick up the following Tuesday.
