It is our great honor to invite you to participate in a powerful new initiative taking place this September in Cyprus: the Cyprus Women Environmental Peacemakers (CWEP) project. Funded by the European Union under the PLACE Programme in Cyprus, CWEP aims to empower women as vital agents of peacebuilding and environmental sustainability.
This project seeks to foster cross-communal collaboration between Greek Cypriot ( WIFT CYPRUS Women in Film and Television Cyprus ) and Turkish Cypriot ( Environmental Society of Lefka Association ) communities through the proposal for the creation of a Green Memorial Area honoring the 975 remaining missing persons from both communities. This living monument will serve as a space for healing, remembrance, and unity.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬:
𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 & 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲:
A comprehensive policy paper will be developed as an outcome of the two-day conference and focus group. It will be submitted to:
The Bi-Communal Technical Committees on Environment and Education and the European Parliament Committees (FEMM, CULT, AGRI, DROI)
It will outline clear recommendations for incorporating environmental peacebuilding into the reconciliation process and advocating for the Green Memorial’s long-term impact.
𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦 & 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭:
Symbolic and meaningful actions such as: collective seed-ball making and dispersal in the UN Buffer Zone and a planting of one olive tree—symbolizing remembrance, regeneration, peace and unity through nature and honoring the remaining missing persons from both communities.
𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 – “𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬, 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞”:
A dynamic online video will feature key female figures — educators, activists, and peacebuilders — highlighting how nature can unite a divided island and how women lead in both peace and environmental justice.
